Despite having lived in the area for around five years, we'd somehow never visited Gables, the most significant restaurant in Newgate Street and perhaps the most significant fine dining restaurant in the area.
We had been told by many friends and acquaintances that it was good but I have to say that we were very pleasantly surprised. My wife had the traditional Sunday roast, which was excellent while I opted for the special of the day, which was a pasta with liver. I can certainly say that my choice was absolutely superb - as good as anything I've had in a central London restaurant and a very generous portion. One of the most memorable aspects of the visit was the incredibly friendly service.
